Job Definition:  The Kennel Technician is a part-time animal care position focused on the daily care, cleanliness, comfort, and enrichment of animals housed at the Leadville/Lake County Animal Shelter. The position is primarily hands-on and is responsible for maintaining clean kennels and animal areas, completing routine feeding and care tasks, and supporting a safe and sanitary shelter environment.  Essential Duties: The following duties are intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities.  The duties listed below are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by this position.   • Clean and sanitize dog kennels, cat housing, animal areas, bowls, crates, and related equipment according to shelter protocols.  • Feed animals according to established feeding instructions and ensure animals have access to clean, fresh water.  • Provide basic daily animal care and monitor animals while completing assigned care tasks.  • Provide appropriate enrichment and socialization, including toys, treats, walks, and interaction as directed.  • Complete laundry, dishes, and other cleaning tasks necessary for daily shelter operations. • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kennel areas, animal care spaces, and common shelter areas.  • Complete assigned daily animal care and cleaning logs/checklists. • Promptly report changes in an animal’s health, behavior, appetite, elimination, or general condition to shelter leadership. • Follow established animal-handling, sanitation disease-prevention, safety and emergency protocols. • Assist with basic facility upkeep and seasonal outdoor tasks as assigned, including snow removal and general cleaning. • Perform other related animal care and shelter support duties as assigned. Other Duties • Administrative duties such as intake and release processing, payment processing, licensing, and other general shelter operations.  • These duties may be assigned or performed as needed based on operational needs.  • Additional training and opportunities to learn or assist with other shelter functions may be available based on the employee’s interest, ability, training, and operational needs.
